Nahima Vargas Wilfong, M.Psy. is a psychology extern at The Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment in Falls Church. Currently a fourth-year Clinical Psychology doctoral candidate in the Professional Psychology (PsyD) Program at The George Washington University, Nahima brings a wealth of experience in working with children, adolescents, and families across diverse clinical settings.
Her professional journey has been marked by a commitment to addressing a wide range of psychological challenges including anxiety, depression, neurodiversity, trauma, relational difficulties, and issues of self-esteem, impulse control, and emotional regulation. Nahima specializes in providing individual therapy, group therapy, and comprehensive psychological assessments tailored to enhance quality of life for her patients. She has also done extensive work with parents to provide psychoeducation, increase parent management skills, and develop a working relationship to support the therapeutic work with children.
As a clinician, Nahima prioritizes each patient’s individual needs and aims to tailor her theoretical approaches and therapeutic interventions to fit accordingly. She is incredibly passionate about her professional work and takes on a strengths-based, experience-near perspective. Nahima develops strong therapeutic relationships with patients by approaching the work relationally, empathically, collaboratively, and creatively, all while finding ways to make therapy fun and engaging. She encourages patients to bring their “full selves,” to the therapy room and makes space for all aspects of identity. She integrates theories; often bridging the gap between attachment theory, behavioral principles, systemic ideologies, and psychodynamic perspectives. Therapeutic modalities include Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT).
Prior to her doctoral studies, Nahima earned her Master’s in Child Study and Human Development with a specialization in Clinical-Developmental Health Psychology from Tufts University and completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Florida International University.
