Expertise in Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, and Mood Disorders

Ashley French works with adults, adolescents, couples, and families, especially in times of major life changes. She has particular interest and experience in working with couples, co-parents, families, and individuals who are dealing with the effects of high-conflict divorce or engaged in the family legal system for divorce, custody, support, domestic disputes, mediation, collaborative divorce, or court order enforcement. Ashley has experience supporting clients working through trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, interpersonal concerns, emotional disturbance, mood disorders, and personality disorders.

Ashley is passionate about providing a non-judgmental, supportive, and genuine space for her clients to process their emotions, thought patterns, interpersonal relationships, and past experiences. Ashley knows that each individual deserves support that meets their specific needs and uses integrative therapies to tailor psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioral modalities to each client. Ashley utilizes her social work background in sessions by exploring the systems that impact each person’s view of themselves, including a person’s family system, educational/vocational background, and cultural dynamics. Ashley is dedicated to meeting each client where they are and helping them harness their personal capacity to take steps forward towards desired change.

Ashley earned her Master of Social Work Degree with a concentration in Mental Health and Trauma from the University of Denver. Ashley previously worked at The Women’s Center in Vienna, Virginia providing individual, couples, and family therapy services to a diverse set of low-income clients and domestic violence survivors. While working towards her Master of Social Work Degree, Ashley previously received her Master of Legal Studies Degree from American University, allowing her to work as a paralegal in the family law field to learn about the impacts of high-conflict divorce, child custody, and various family law matters from the legal perspective.

Honoring Our Roots, Embracing Our Future

As the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment celebrates our 20th anniversary, we are also announcing that starting this fall, we will be changing the name of our practice to Expand Psychology. This change reflects our commitment to meet the ever evolving mental health needs of our clients and the community.

Since our founding, our clinical team has developed to include specialists who provide a wider range of evidence-based therapies, allowing us to serve additional client populations from infancy through adulthood, expanding our ability to work with the entire family system. Our new name captures the depth of our current services, including our ability to provide psychological testing and autism evaluation for all ages.

A new website will  launch on October 3, 2025 – with a wider scope of mental health services to support you.

We continue to accept new clients during the transition and you can reach out to us via our online form on our current site, at contact@centerforcbtva.com, or phone at 703-618-0900.
