Sofia Goltsberg, Psy.D.

Sofia Goltsberg, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides evidence-based treatment and assessment for children, adolescents, families, and adults at the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment. Dr. Goltsberg understands that coming to therapy is often a difficult decision, and she is committed to fostering a safe, nonjudgmental space where individuals and families can feel comfortable discussing the changes that they would like to make to improve their well-being.

Dr. Goltsberg primarily works with families to address a wide variety of externalizing behavioral concerns in children, such as tantrums, noncompliance, sleep difficulties, homework challenges, and behaviors associated with ADHD. Dr. Goltsberg is also passionate about working with children and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety (OCD, general anxiety, and specific fears). Therapy is short-term and goal-oriented to ensure that parents have the skills needed to effectively manage their child’s behavior beyond the course of treatment. Dr. Goltsberg takes a behavioral approach when working with young children with externalizing concerns, emphasizing that parents are the agents of change in their child’s behavior. Sessions involve specific skills practice and may involve play between children and their parents to help strengthen their relationship. For children and adolescents with anxiety, she takes a cognitive behavioral approach, helping youth understand the relationship between their thoughts and feelings, and how this impacts their behavior. She takes a collaborative approach with youth and their parents to decide how to most effectively manage their anxious symptoms. Dr. Goltsberg also provides care to adults with anxiety and depression using cognitive behavioral and relational approaches.

Dr. Goltsberg earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her master’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Hartford. Throughout her training, she provided therapeutic and assessment services in university-based clinics, primary care, and community mental health settings. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health in Ohio and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Behavior Management Clinic. At the Behavior Management Clinic, Dr. Goltsberg honed her passion for working with children with behavioral and mood concerns. She is certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based, play-centered approach, designed for families with young children exhibiting behavioral concerns.
