The Next Chapter of our Mental Health Practice
We are thrilled to share an exciting and meaningful announcement with you. As the Center for Cognitive Therapy and Assessment celebrates our 20th anniversary, we are also announcing that starting this fall, we will be changing the name of our practice to Expand Psychology.
This change officially goes into effect on October 3, 2025.
Our Evolution and Continued Commitment
While our name is new, our ownership, leadership, team, mission, and commitment to you have not changed. In fact, this change was motivated by the ways the variety of our services have grown and a wish to align the name of our practice with the many ways we are more equipped than ever to support our clients and community.
- Honoring Our Past:Founded by our Director Dr. Katie O’Meara, the practice originally focused on bringing evidenced-based treatment and psychological assessment to the Northern Virginia community. The practice took root in providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychological testing for children and adolescents. While these will remain valued services at our practice, we have seen new needs emerge in our community as well.
- Expanding Our Services:Over time, our team has grown to include specialists providing a wider range of evidence-based therapies which allows us to serve additional client populations. Over the last several years we have developed into a practice able to serve clients across the lifespan, from infancy through adulthood. We have expanded to working with the entire family system, utilizing cutting-edge parenting supports, helping partners build resiliency through couple’s therapy, and helping parents support their children through divorce and separation. Our assessment services now include autism evaluation and tailored psychoeducational assessments for schools. We are committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to populations that have historically had limited options for support.
- A Commitment to Collaboration:As always, we continue to focus on expanded collaboration with fellow clinicians, pediatricians, primary care physicians, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners, schools, medical providers, executive functioning coaches, dieticians and nutritionists, and other practitioners and partners.
Why Expand Psychology? Hear from Our Founder, Dr. Katie O’Meara
“To us, Expand means to broaden, diversify, evolve, and strengthen. We chose the name Expand Psychology because it speaks to our dedication to continued adaptation and growth within our practice. We strive to meet the needs of our community. Since our founding, our team now offers additional treatment modalities, serves a broader population, and works in a highly collaborative way. This name reflects our commitment to learning, service, and building a truly supportive community for both clients and clinicians.”
– Katie O’Meara, Founder and Practice Director
What to Expect
While the name is changing, the practice remains deeply committed to our roots: offering compassionate, personalized, and evidence-based care that helps people improve their quality of life, not just manage symptoms.
All of Expand Psychology’s current services, clinicians, and pricing will remain the same. If you are a current client, you can still reach your provider the same way you always have. Emails will forward to their new address and they will provide you with their new email address as well.
Starting October 3, 2025, you will see a new website, new logo, new email addresses, and “Expand Psychology” in all of our communications. What will not be changing is our dedication to providing the highest quality care possible.
We Appreciate You
We are grateful to our clients, colleagues, and partners who have been part of our practice and community. Thank you for your trust and collaboration – past, present, and future. We remain motivated and excited for our continued work with you as we expand our understanding, insights, and healing together.
